Ontario reports 649 people in hospital with COVID-19 and 204 in intensive care

Ontario is reporting 649 people in hospital with COVID-19 today, and 204 in intensive care.

That's compared with 688 people in hospital on Tuesday, and 220 in ICUs.

The province is reporting 15 new deaths from the virus today, as well as 2,011 new infections.

But Ontario's top doctor has said the actual number is likely 10 times higher than the daily log, since access to PCR testing is restricted.

About 6.5 per cent of the province's long-term care homes are currently reporting active outbreaks of COVID-19.

Data on school closures isn't being recorded this week due to March Break.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published March 16, 2022.
