Man faces murder charges after woman found stabbed inside burning Vaughan, Ont. home

VAUGHAN, Ont. — A 71-year-old man is facing murder and arson charges after police say a woman was found with stab wounds inside a burning home in Vaughan, Ont.  

York Regional Police say officers were called to help with a structure fire near Parktree Drive and Lucena Crescent on Friday night around 7:45. 

Inside the house, officers found a woman unresponsive. She was transported to hospital and was pronounced dead. 

Police say a post-mortem exam confirmed the 64-year-old woman from Vaughan died from stab wounds. 

On Friday, the same night as the fire, police say they arrested a 71-year-old man, also from Vaughan. 

They say he remains in custody on charges of first-degree murder and arson endangering life.
