Ontario Premier Doug Ford created a bit of a buzz after swallowing a bee during a news conference on Friday.

The premier was answering a question on health care when an insect flew around his face and disappeared into his mouth.

Ford gagged and coughed for a moment before saying "Holy Christ, I just swallowed a bee."

He took a sip of water and gave a thumbs up to reporters inquiring if he was OK.

Ford joked about how the video of what happened was going to be played repeatedly, calling it a "classic."

The premier then carried on with his news conference, quipping later that the bee was building a hive in his stomach.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 12, 2022.
