Driver arrested after shots fired on the 401, Yorkdale mall goes into lockdown

Toronto police say a major city shopping centre briefly went into lockdown this afternoon after officers received reports of a man driving on Highway 401 shooting a gun into the air before turning onto the premises.

Police said in a Twitter post at 2:30 p.m. that the man proceeded to the Yorkdale Shopping Centre parking lot in a dark blue Honda Acura following the gunshots on Canada's busiest highway.

Minutes later they said they had arrested the suspect, who is in his 30s, and recovered the firearm.

Police say there are no injuries reported.

Officers remain on the scene.

There was no immediate word on whether charges had been laid.
