Grandmother to Michelle Daigle, Nicole Graham (Peter), Lisa Harwood (Greg), David Aitken (Elizabeth), Diana Antle (Trent), Lee Rogers (Audrey), Mark Rogers, Alissa Toeppner (Josh), Christopher Tuulos (Donna), Michael Tuulos (Amanda), Thomas Tuulos, Nicolas Dubonnet (Anna-Michelle) and Victoria Dubonnet.

Proud Great-Grandmother of Maximillian, Isla, Margot, Leila, Rowyn, Caden, Ethan, Christian, Judah, Nasaya, Brendan, Frankie, Linnea, Maija, Eeva, Alexis, Trinity, Tessa, Keisha, Paige, Katelyn, Faustina, Josephine and one on the way. 

Salme was born in Kangasniemi, Finland. Immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1953 on the Motor Liners “Stockholm” ship, via Halifax. She then met Pentti in a Finnish-Lutheran Church in Toronto, where they were married. After residing in Toronto for a period, they moved to Serpent River, North Bay, then ultimately residing with their family of 5 in the town of Trout Creek in 1963 in a farmhouse complete with sauna. She was a woman of many vocations including typist, bank clerk, corporate secretary and completed her Bachelor’s degree in History in 1979 at the age of 54. She was an avid reader, baker, gardener, seamstress, knitter, cross-country skier and animal lover. She enjoyed large family gatherings, most of all Christmas.  She loved the Lord with all her heart and found strength and purpose in her faith and church.

Salme passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Cassellholme, Home for the Aged in North Bay, Ontario on Thursday, August 1st, 2019. Special thank you for the exceptional care provided by the RN’s, RPN’s and PSW’s at Cassellholme during her 6 ½ years battling dementia.

Funeral Services will be provided by Hillside Funeral Services on Sunday, August 4th with visitation at 9:30am followed by Celebration of Life at 11am, Luncheon to follow. Interment will be performed on Tuesday, August 6th at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cassellholme activity department.
