Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, Saturday, September 28, 2019 at the age of 81. Sid was the beloved husband of Elsie (nee Jamieson) of whom he was predeceased, and loved father of Carolyn White (Steve) and Alice Gaynor (Scott). He will lovingly be remembered by his three grandchildren, Sidney, Lauren and Elise. Sid was also cherished by his siblings Julie, Albert and Tom. Predeceased by his parents, Sid Tomkins and Emelienne (nee Cantin). Sid was a lifetime resident of North Bay and began his career as a technician, announcer and then manager at CKGN-TV. Sid participated in several community-minded organizations throughout his life, including Kinsmen, Rotary, City Council, Hydro Commission, School Board Trustee, Society of Motion Pictures and Television, Manager of Media Relations for the Ontario Winter Games, and Board of Governors for TV Ontario. He was a lifetime member of the North Bay Musicians and Entertainers Assoc. as well as the Canadian Assoc. of Broadcasters. He was the founding president of CHUR Radio (KISS 100.5 FM) in North Bay.  He will most lovingly be remembered by many as Jolly Old Saint Nick. After retiring, he and Elsie enjoyed travelling and visited many countries in the Americas, U.K. and Europe. He will be dearly missed. Family and friends may pay their respects at McGuinty Funeral Home (North Bay) on Thursday October 3, 2019 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm.
