THOMPSON, Betty Doreen (née Blakelock)

Posted

After a long and wonderful life, Betty passed away on December 4th at the age of
96. Predeceased by her husband Dr. Main Thompson, sister Julia Devenish,
brother John Blakelock, and sister-in-law Ruth Tipler, Betty was the devoted
mother of Russell, beloved grandmother of Peter, and doting aunt of nine nieces
and nephews. She was a loving and supportive second mother to her daughter-in-
law Nancy.
A native of Oakville, Ontario, Betty trained as a nurse at Toronto General Hospital.
Following World War II she returned to school at the University of Western
Ontario, earning a Bachelor of Science degree, and became a nurse educator in
Ottawa before marrying Main and moving to North Bay in 1951.

Betty was an avid world traveler, a supporter of countless charities, and a faithful
member of Calvin Presbyterian Church. She lived at home until she was ninety
years old, and then moved to the Empire Living Centre, where she lived happily
for the rest of her life.
At Betty’s request, there will be a private memorial service with no visitation. In
lieu of flowers, donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation or
the Nipissing Serenity Hospice in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the Martyn Funeral Home.
