TAPPENDEN, Sylvia

Sylvia succumbed to cancer after 5 years of valiant struggle on Friday December 18, 2020. She is the dear wife of Edwin Tappenden. Loving mother of Jamie and his wife Michele of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Leigh Ann Stone and her husband David of Toronto. Sadly missed by her grandchildren Peter and Andrea Tappenden and Alex and Hailey Stone. Survived by her sister Diane Jaakkola (Alan) of Ottawa. Sylvia taught art and music in Matheson and many other places in the north. She was also an avid gardener, receiving the Lieutenant Governor’s award in recognition of her skills. Sylvia had a zest for life and was loved by all who knew her. Her family would like to thank the many health care professionals, especially Dr. Graham and the Oncology staff at North Bay Regional Health Centre, who helped her to live a full and vibrant life over the past 5 years despite her diagnosis.  At Sylvia’s request, cremation is taking place. If desired donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Basic Cremation Services.
