STRACHAN, Gerald K.

Passed away peacefully after some health issues at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, on Thursday, March 16, 2023. Gerry was born in Mount Elgin, Ontario, on May 20, 1940 and grew up in Norwich, Ontario. His working years were in Toronto, St. Catharines and North Bay. The last 14 years were spent in New Hamburg.

Beloved husband and best friend to Stella (Novak) Strachan, whom he has devoted 57 years of marriage to. Loving father of Grant and wife Carole and Jeffrey and wife Andrea. Proud grandfather of Ashley, Jeremy, Derek and Megan. Gerry will be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and wife Margaret, Tom and wife Pauline and Donna. Gerry is survived by his nieces, nephews and extended family.

Predeceased by his parents Donald and Irene (Gilbert) Strachan, brother Donald and sister-in-law Anne and her husband Dave Dobrindt.

Gerry truly loved the outdoors. He loved fishing and playing a good game of golf. He enjoyed the cottage in North Bay with his family and friends. Gerry and Stella enjoyed their travels to Florida every winter, and Gerry definitely loved his career of being a Professional Civil Engineer. Above all things in life Gerry was a Proud Grandfather. He treasured his four grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Dr’s, Nurses and care staff at St. Mary’s General Hospital, for the compassionate and kind care shown to Gerry and his family.

Cremation has taken place. All are welcome to come and join the family to celebrate Gerry’s 83rd birthday, a life well lived and remembered. Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Words of remembrance will be spoken at 3:45.

In his memory, donations would be accepted to St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation and can be done on the funeral home website.
