Heaven has gained another angel. It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beautiful and kind soul, Melanie. It is so fitting that her parents gave her the middle name Joy. If you had the pleasure of meeting Melanie I'm sure you would agree, she was full of joy. She didn't have a mean bone in her body. People always reference "she'd give you the shirt off her back," but in Mel's case, she really would! Plus she'd take in your animals too! She absolutely loved animals, and they loved her. Melanie and her partner Jamie, always joked about their 'funny farm.' Dogs, cats, chickens, lizards, fish...there were always animals at the 'funny farm.'
You'd think her passion for animals would take most of her attention, but Melanie's heart was huge! She spent her career of 23 years with the NPSC school board working as an Educational Assistant. She was so calm and patient with the students and always made following the rules fun. Whether it was a high five from Pluto, a 'magic' gold fish cracker or a sticker on a chart, little ones were always happy to play along.
Melanie's main love was her family. She loved them with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed by so many. Her partner and love of her life, Jamie Muriwske (Shayla and Bradly). Her daughter and the sunshine of her life, Brianna Poitras. Her role model in life, her Mother Isabelle Lawrence (Veltri).The Thelma to her Louise, Jessica Blais. Along with all of her relatives, friends and co-workers. Melanie was predeceased by her brother James Lawrence, her dad Greg Lawrence and her father Don Guertin.
Melanie's life will be honored at a later date. If you would like to make a donation in Melanie's honour, it seems only fitting to choose the All Heart Pet Recue in Powassan. It would warm her heart for you to give a stranger a smile and always pay it forward. She sure did.
