Martin, Gerald (2)

With sad hearts, the family of Gerald “Gerry” Franklin Martin
announces that he passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at
the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Sunday, November 5, 2017, in
his 93rd year.  Beloved husband of Margueritte Martin (nee Chrysler).
Cherished father of John Martin, Janice “Jan” Martin, and Gerald
“Gerry” Martin (Leslie Burn).  Especially remembered by birth
daughter, Ginny Paulsen in Vancouver. Proud grandfather of Gregory
Gravelle, Alex “Lexi” Lafleur-Brown (J.T.) and baby Lily and Veronica
Campbell.  Sadly missed by many nieces & nephews and great-niece
and great-nephew.  Predeceased by his parents, Clara (Dunn) and
Donald Martin, his beloved mother-in- law, “Peggy” Chrysler, and his
three younger siblings and their spouses, Shirley Blackwell (Jack),
Bruce Martin (“Bunny”), and Donna (Tim Morris).

Born in North Bay on August 31, 1925, raised in Capreol, ON, Gerald
completed Basic Training with the 48 th Highlanders and served in the
Armoured Corps during World War II, and was a proud Veteran. He was
employed by the Canadian National Railway for 44 years. He cycled to
work daily and was an avid downhill skier at Laurentian and Mt Antoine

Ski Hills, tennis player with Lakeshore Tennis Club and passionate
golfer at Clear Springs Golf Club after retirement, and Mr. Fix-it- when-
it-wasn’t- broken in his self-built barn workshop in the rest of his spare
time. He will always be remembered for his daily walks, his Capreol-
isms, love for jelly beans, charming wit and his bright blue eyes.
The Martin family would like to express sincere gratitude to our
precious cousins for visits and to Maple Ward and Day Program staff at
Cassellholme for their loving care of our husband and father during the
past 4 years. Thank you also to Dr. Prins, NBRHC ER Nurses and RTTs,
and C-3 Nurses for their respectful and tender care on his last day. A
special thank you to Tracy Brewer-Davis for being with us at
Cassellholme the day after.
Family will receive friends and family at Emmanuel United Church,
Lakeshore Drive, North Bay on Friday, November 24, at 11:00am, with
Celebration of Life service to follow at 1:00pm.  Interment will take
place at a later date. If desired, donations to Cassellholme, Heart and
Stroke Foundation, North Bay and District Cardiac Fitness Club, Cancer
Society-North Bay or the North Bay Santa Fund would be gratefully
acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
