The Males family sadly announces Roy’s passing at the North Bay Regional Health Center, on Friday July 7, 2017, with family by his side. He was 85. For 52 years he was the beloved and devoted husband of Barbara (nee Gibbs) who predeceased him in 2010. The proud and loving father of Cindy, her children Rebecca (Zack Naveau) and Jared, and Darren (Jennifer Fetter) and his step children Megan and Andrew Trotter. Born in New Liskeard Roy was the eldest of the ten children born to George and Florence Males. He is survived by his siblings Edith Letts (Russ), Marilyn Barber (Glenn), Ann Sears (Ray deceased), Karen Dufresne (late Bob Ellis and John Dufresne), all of North Bay, Delmer (Linda) of Bradford, and Garry (Denise) of Orillia, and was predeceased by Shirley Burton (Ralph deceased), Mervin (Betty) of North Bay, and Wayne.
Roy was a machinist by profession. Beginning his career in the mining industry he later found his true calling as an instructor at Canadore College. He thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his students and continued teaching, after his official retirement, until the age of 72. He was a dedicated, long time member of the Oddfellows, North Bay Lodge #271, and the United Church. Friends may call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon and evening from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9pm. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 1:30pm Wednesday July 12. Cremation will follow.
