(1930 – 2016) - Long-time North Bay resident Don MacDougall passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 27th, 2016 in his 86th year.  Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario he worked for many years for a regional news distributor while completing high school.  He left to attend university in Michigan and then lived in Sudbury, Ontario and Port Cartier, Quebec before moving to North Bay.  In 1963 he joined the Ontario Northland Railway where he had a long management career retiring as the VP Finance of the ONTC in 1990.  He served on the Board of Nipissing University from 1976 to 1986 and was active for many years with North Bay Rotary Club supporting its many community service activities.  In retirement, he spent time mentoring with the Literacy Alliance and the Nipissing School Board. As many know, growing up in Kirkland Lake is like having dual citizenship – you may now live elsewhere, but you are always a Kirkland Laker.  Don was no exception as he spent much time recently with family and friends reminiscing about the people, places and events of that gold mining centre’s heyday.
Born Daniel Edward MacDougall, always been known as Don, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, three brothers and a sister.  Don is survived by his loving son John with daughter-in-law Susan along with three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and a bevy of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES, 362 Airport Rd, on Thursday September 29th from 2 until 4 pm and again from 7 to 9 pm.  A celebration of life will be held on Friday September 30th at 1 pm at the funeral home.  Donations in memory of Don to Cassellhome in North Bay would be gratefully acknowledged by his family.
