Peacefully, at Cassellholme, on Thursday, February 12, 2004, at the age of 86 years. Irene Elsie Tomkins was the beloved wife of the late Melville Luesby whom she married in 1949. She was predeceased by Metville on February 17,1985. Irene will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Mrs. Evelyn Moulder of North Bay and her family. As well as her parents, the late Alice and John Tomkins, she was also predeceased by her brother Sidney and sister Helen. For several years, Irene worked at Garett’s Cigar Store, a former downtown landmark. Mel, a veteran of WWII, was a carman for the ONR for 35 years. A private couple, they lived on Duke Street for 30 years, where they were great gardeners. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME (across from City Hall) on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7to 9 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 16th at 1:30 p.m. Spring interment in Terrace Lawn Cemetery. If desired donations to Laurier Avenue United Church, the Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
