(1948-2017) - It is with profound sadness that the family announces that Daniel (Dan) Patrick Legris passed away peacefully at home in the company of his wife, daughter Ashley and mother-in-law Gail, on February 22, 2017. Dan was the loving husband and best friend to Joanne Bénard, and amazing father to Ashley Rose Bénard-Legris, Dan Legris (Melody Anthony) and Michelle Brownlee.  He was also a kind and caring grand-father to Ashton and Kaytlin.  Dan was the son of the late Daniel and Justine Legris (nee Berard). He was brother to Joan McCarthy (Bob, deceased), the late Frances Hanniman (Greg, deceased), Alfred, Bert (Loretto), Patrick and Lyndon (Anna). Dan, ‘Mr. Legris’ was an amazing story teller and passionate teacher.  He began his teaching career in Sudbury with the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and then spent 32 years teaching with the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board with most of those years at Mother St. Bride School. We have no doubt that he has had a significant impact on the lives of many students and that many homes still have shelves, clocks and other items made in the shop with Mr. Legris.  Dan loved teaching and always spoke so highly of the students and staff at M.S.B. Dan is most remembered for his laughter, sense of humour, his smile, his beautiful blue eyes, his stories, his strength and his incredible kindness. Dan was a loving husband, father, grand-father and exceptional friend, neighbor and teacher. He will most certainly be missed by many. The family will receive friends at the McGuinty Funeral Home located at 591 Cassells Street, North Bay on Sunday February 26, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday February 27, 2017 at 11 am at the Holy Name of Jesus Parish in North Bay. Dan’s family wishes to extend grateful thanks to Dr. Cano at the Northeastern Cancer Centre (Sudbury), the wonderful staff at the cancer clinic of the North Bay Regional Health Centre, Heather McGuinty CCAC, the caring staff at the IDA Pharmacy in Callander and the VON staff for the exceptional care and compassion extended to Dan.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society and the Covenant House in Toronto would be appreciated by the family.  We hope to see many past students, colleagues and friends as we gather in celebration of the life of Mr. Dan Legris.
