Ruth Jones passed peacefully on Wednesday September 1st, 2021, with family by her side. Ruth was born on January 20th, 1938 in Mattawa, On. She was fortunate to have an amazing daughter-in-law, Lise, who took exceptional care of her through her final journey. Predeceased by her husband Keith ‘Casey’ Jones in 1985. ‘Nanny’ was the loving mother of Ricky Jones (Joanna Arrowsmith), Robbie Jones (Lise) and Bonnie Blair (Marc); cherished grandmother of Tanya Godard (Alain), Tiffany (Nick Edwards), Jessica (Billy Ross), Casey, Quinn and Casey Jones and great grandmother to Davin, Danik, Max and Gaby. Ruth's fifth great grandchild Baby Ross will be arriving in February 2022.

Mom loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was proud of each of them.  She truly wished that they lived closer so she could spend more time with them. Nanny always enjoyed their phone calls. She taught her grandchildren and great grandchildren to be selfless in volunteering, to find beauty in each day, and how to stay safe. She always said ‘make sure you make time for the people that you love’. Mom's buddy was Casey Jones. They spent many hours together and shared a very special bond.  Casey was always there to help his Nanny and in return Nanny baked Casey his favorite desserts. Nanny was Casey’s biggest hockey fan and she loved going to watch the Mattawa Rockets.

Ruth was also predeceased by her parents Marie Evelyne (Lamoureux) and Joseph Moise Chevrier. She is survived by her sister Jacqueline Chevrier. Predeceased by siblings Don Chevrier (wife Jackie surviving), Noella Coughlin (husband Tom, deceased), Eleanor Wilson (husband Clayton, deceased) and Ken Chevrier (wife Ella, deceased). Ruth loved all of her nieces and nephews and she always enjoyed their visits.

Nanny was adored by her family and she cherished all her children; she loved it when her family came to visit her. She loved to laugh and had a positive attitude and a zest for life; she thought everything was beautiful; in her eyes, life was beautiful. Ruth had a strong catholic faith and was a devoted Christian. Her favorite things were playing Bingo, scratch tickets and reality TV shows.  She enjoyed baking and loved to clean her house and took great pride in it. She recently picked up puzzles as a hobby. She had many friends and was loved by everyone. After Ruth retired from Columbia she spent many hours volunteering at the nursing home, hospital auxiliary, St. Anne's Church and Meals on Wheels. Volunteering was one of her true passions in life.

Ruth and her best friend Marg shared a truly special bond and were always together whether it was volunteering, walking, shopping or playing bingo.  Ruth and Marg were best friends for 68 years. Ruth had a very special place in her heart for Marg's children (Darlene and Lori) and her grandchildren (Jordan, Kelsey, Kyrsten, Kaylee and Hunter). Louise Dupras and Mona Pecore were also very close friends with whom Ruth spent many hours talking on the phone and playing Bingo. Ruth always looked forward to when her cousin Claire Dubois came to visit. She also cherished her friendship with Gaye Clark. They played many UNO games and shared many laughs in recent months.

No amount of words can express our gratitude to the nursing staff at the Mattawa Hospital for the love, exceptional care and attention they provided our mother.  Thank you to Dr. Wilkins for the care you provided our mother throughout the years. Friends may call at the Martyn & Sloan ‘Mattawa Chapel’ on Friday September 10 from 5-8 pm.
