Lloyd Hinchberger died, unexpectedly and peacefully, at his home in North Bay, on Saturday, October 3, 2015, one week shy of his 85th birthday. Lloyd is survived by his wife Joan (Schmelefske) of Nipissing Manor, Corbeil; his children Lara of Port Hope and Marty of North Bay; and his siblings Alban (Cleo) of North Bay, Lorraine of Trout Creek and Annette (the late Ken Brear) of Trout Creek. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Loretta (Hummel) and Charles Hinschberger and his brother Stanley (Jocelan of Calgary). Lloyd was a professional hockey player in the Eastern Hockey League, best known as a top defenseman with the Nashville Dixie Flyers. He later became a coach in a hockey career that spanned from 1949 to 1973. Lloyd was retired from a second career with the Ministry of Natural Resources in the North Bay area. The Hinchberger family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Vigil prayers will be held from 7:00 to 7:15 pm. Fr. Martin Dalida will celebrate a Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Trout Creek on Wednesday, October 7 at 11:00 am. Cremation will follow. If desired, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society are suggested.
