Gowan Ross

December 12, 1941-February 21, 2021

(Frederick) Ross Gowan passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2021. He was 79 years old.

Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Mildred Gowan, Ross leaves behind his high school sweetheart of 56 years, Glenna (Mills) and his five daughters, Heather (Andrew), Carrie (Al), Sheryl, Janice (Mark) and Stacey (Nick). He was a proud and beloved Grandpa to his eight grandchildren: Rachel, Evan, Maya, Julia, Matt, Blake, Eric and Emma. Ross is also survived by his two sisters Joyce Straiton and Louise Culligan, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ross was a long-time employee of Ontario Northland, but “his girls” and their families were always the most important thing in his life. He was happiest when everyone was around the house and took special joy in times spent with the kids, grandkids and dogs at the family cottage on Trout Lake. He was our family’s rock. We know how happy he will be to be reunited with his canine companions, Brandie and Chelsey.

Thank you to Dr. Cuncins, Dr. Carlson, Dr. Jani and the staff who cared for Ross at the Northeast Cancer Centre in Sudbury and the North Bay Regional Health Centre. We extend a special thank you to the wonderful nurses with Care Partners for their exceptional care of Ross at the family home.

In lieu of flowers, we humbly request that donations be directed to two local charities regularly supported by the family: North Bay Regional Health Centre and Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

Due to the pandemic restrictions a private family service will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on Friday February 26  at 1:00pm. The service will be live streamed on the Martyn Funeral Home Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MartynFuneralHome/.
