Passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2020 at the age of 89 at Waters Edge Care Community. She was predeceased by her husband Jim (1998) and infant son who died at birth. Loving mother of Randy (Cora Lee), Bruce, Kerry (Sherri-Lynn), and Lynn Vannelli (Joe). Grandmother to Coleman, Joel, Craig, Stephen, Christopher, Shanna-Lynn, Thomas and Christina. Joan also had seven great grandchildren. Joan was born in Edmonton on February 24, 1931. She met her husband Jim after joining the Royal Canadian Air Force and they were married in 1954. The family moved to a number of postings ranging from Alberta to Newfoundland and two US states before settling in North Bay. Joan and Jim moved to Lake Nosbonsing in 1988 where Joan loved spending time in her flower garden, feeding birds and small animals, and enjoying the beautiful view. Joan was a talented seamstress and she loved doing handcrafts including ceramics, porcelain dolls, folk-art painting, and many others. Joan suffered from Dementia and spent her last few years at Waters Edge Care Community where her room overlooked the garden area and Lake Nipissing. The family would like to thank the staff at Waters Edge for their excellent care and compassion. A special thank you to Joan’s friend Anita for all her help and support over the years. We were all blessed to have Anita in Joan’s life. A small private service will be held at Martyn Funeral Home with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
