Posted

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at MARTYN’S FUNERAL HOME, for Joan Winnifred Dean, who died suddenly in her 86th year on Saturday, December 27th, 2003. The Dean family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Born and raised in Toronto, Joan graduated as a Registered Nurse from Toronto General Hospital in 1942 and moved to Northern Ontario with her husband Lloyd who predeceased her in 1989, where they raised a family of five children. Joan was an active member of the community and contributed her time and considerable energy to various causes and organizations. She was an avid reader who loved a good argument, and stayed active physically and mentally by volunteering at the school library, playing bridge, walking, swimming and leading a senior’s exercise class well into her 80’s. Joan moved from Levack to North Bay in 1994 to be closer to her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Peggy (Doug Kuebler) of Montreal, Quebec; Susan (William Straight) of Kenora; Carol (Jeff Smith) of Toronto; Geoffrey (Laurie Townshend) of Pembroke; Leslie (Chris Bethune) of North Bay; and by her ten grandchildren, Geoffrey, Martin, Tyler, Graham, Conor, Michael, Molly, Jesse, Brett and Mitchell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the North Bay New Hospital Foundation Fund.
