Former P.C. M.P. for Parry Sound Muskoka for six consecutive elections from 1972-1993. Peacefully at Huntsville & District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 11, 2004 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Mona Collyer. Lovingly remembered by brother Peter of Owen Sound, sons John and wife Joyce, Peter and wife Diane. Grandchildren, Patrick, Stephen, Jason and wife Lori, Victoria, Ron and Brent. Great-grandson, Emmett. Predeceased by brother, Donald and sister Doris. Born in Callander, on July 16th, 1911 to John M and Kathleen Darling. Later moving to Burks Falls, Stan started his insurance business in 1938 and later added Real Estate. Joined by sons, Peter and John now retired and presently under direction of grandsons, Stephen and Jason. Stan's interest in politics began in 1942 when he was elected to the Burks Falls council, after 4 years as councillor, he was the reeve for 26 years. Stan was a devoted Lion. Joining the Burks Falls Club in 1941 and had over 60 years perfect attendance. He was District Governor of A5 from 1947-48. Recipient of many awards including The Melvin Jones, Helen Keller and Judge Brian Stevenson. Stan traveled to many international conventions all over the world. Also a member of the Corona Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Right. A lifelong member of the United Church and he served as a Trustee and on the Board of Stewards. A longtime member and past president of the Armour Ryerson and Burks Falls Agricultural Society and past president of the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies in 1957. Mr. Darling is resting at the Dempster-Allair Funeral Home, Burks Falls, on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Burks Falls United Church, commencing at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, 2004. Lions Service in the chapel at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Masonic Service in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. on, Tuesday evening. Interment in Burks Falls Cemetery. If desired, donations to the Burks Falls Health Center, Huntsville Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
