Passed away peacefully, Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Home of his daughter Gwen, Massey, Ontario, in his 86th year. Tom Atkins beloved husband of the late Dorothy Atkins (1995). Loving father of Gwen Fairburn (Dale) Massey; Gay Lynn Trotter (Joe) North York; Mary Baker (Gary) Noranda, Québec. Predeceased by his son Gordon Atkins (1992) and his parents Ernest and Grace Atkins. Sadly missed by his 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Thelma Gibbins (late Donald Gregory Gibbins) (her partner Harold Squires) Powassan, Wilfred Atkins (Doe) Huntsville; Gwen Hanna (Ken) Scarborough; Allan Atkins (Margaret) Powassan. He was a veteran of World War II, Infantry Division, he’ll be remembered by his family and friends for his love of his family, his life with Dot at the farm on the Alsace Road, his love for country music, love of singing and playing guitar and dobro. He and Dot were a great supporter and so proud of his nephew Dick and his children Don, Rich, Kathie and Greg. The “Gibbings Family” Band, also fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and friends in the area and Massey. The family will receive visitors at the McDougall and Brown Funeral Home, 2900 Kingston Road, Scarborough, (416) 267-4656 today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday from 11 to 1 p.m. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1 p.m. If desired, memorial donations to the Lung Association, would be greatly appreciated by the family.
