Henrich, Boyd-Clowes named to Canada's Olympic ski jumping team

CALGARY — Taylor Henrich and Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes were named to Canada's Olympic ski jumping team on Wednesday.

Henrich, 22, will be competing in her second Olympic Games after a 13th place finish in Sochi in 2014, when women's ski jumping made its Olympic debut.

Henrich became the first Canadian woman to win a World Cup ski jumping medal, finished third in Oberstdorf, Germany in 2015.

"I am so proud to once again have the opportunity to represent Canada at the Olympic Games," Henrich said. "This is the culmination of all the hard work done in training, but every jump is worth it for the opportunity to wear the maple leaf in Korea."

Boyd-Clowes, 26, has competed in two Olympic Games. His best finish was 12th in the team jump in Sochi with Trevor Morrice, Dusty Korek and Matthew Rowley.

Boyd-Clowes finished 21st in the men's normal hill and 19th in the large hill at the Sochi Games.

He was the first Canadian ski jumper to fly beyond the 200-metre mark when he jumped a personal-best 224 metres in 2016.

"It is always an honour to qualify to represent Canada at the Olympics," Boyd-Clowes said. "It is an amazing feeling to compete knowing that all of Canada is cheering you on."

The athletes were selected based on their performances in FIS World Cup and Summer Grand Prix events between July 1, 2016 and January 21, 2018.

Ski jumping will take place Feb. 8-19 at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre.
