VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks have added assistant coach Brad Shaw and assistant/special assignment coach Kyle Gustafson to head coach Travis Green's staff.
The Canucks announced the additions Wednesday, as well as contract extensions for assistant coaches Nolan Baumgartner and Jason King, goaltending coach Ian Clark and video coach Darryl Seward.
Chris Higgins will resume his role as assistant director, player development, after acting as skill and development coach during the 2021. Assistant coach Newell Brown will not be back with the club.
Shaw spent the last five seasons with Columbus, where he was primarily in charge of the Blue Jackets defence. He has also spent 10 years as an assistant and associate coach with St. Louis (2006-16).
He was interim head coach of the New York Islanders during the 2005-06 season and has also spent time as an assistant with Tampa Bay.
Gustafson spent 18 years with the Western Hockey League's Portland Winterhawks, most recently as assistant general manager and associate coach.
"We're excited to welcome two new members to our coaching staff," Green said in a release. "Brad has a vast amount of coaching experience and a strong technical mind for the game. Kyle is a bright, young coach who will help our team and strengthens our coaching staff."
The Canucks are coming off a disappointing 2020-21 season marred by an outbreak of COVID-19 that affected 25 players and staff, including Green. Vancouver finished last in the North Division with a 23-19-4 record.
