YCAN needs your help to support those in need during COVID

'Our vision is to support the mental wellness of the most isolated in our community in long-term care homes, retirement homes, and mental health residents by providing cognitively beneficial items to support the mental health of those facing higher levels of isolation during these times'

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Community Action Network (YCAN) is looking for donations to support the community in North Bay by putting together care packages for those facing higher levels of isolation during the pandemic.

“Our vision is to support the mental wellness of the most isolated in our community in long-term care homes, retirement homes, and mental health residents by providing cognitively beneficial items to support the mental health of those facing higher levels of isolation during these times,” said Desiree Quenneville, Coordinator for YCAN of Northeastern Ontario.

The items that are being requested are:

  • Puzzles (new or like-new)
  • Crosswords/Sudoku
  • Craft supplies (such as paint, crayons, coloring books/pages, canvas, wood projects)
  • Gardening items
  • Decks of cards
  • Books/short stories
  • Memory games
  • Sunscreen
  • Hand cream
  • Nail polish
  • Hair combs, brushes, and accessories
  • Night lights
  • Sleeping mask/eye masks
  • Assorted fabric squares of different materials (sensory tiles)
  • Busy blanket(s)/Twiddle muff(s)
  • Chia Pet(s)
  • Sea monkey(s)

Items must be new and in the original packaging.

Items can be dropped off starting next Tuesday, July 20 until Friday, July 24 between 10 -11 a.m. and 1-2 p.m. at the North Bay YMCA ,186 Chippewa Street West.
