World Hepatitis Day in North Bay Thursday

The AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area (ACNBA) is marking World Hepatitis Day in North Bay on Thursday, July 25 at 11 a.m.outside North Bay City Hall in Leger Square.

This year’s theme is “Find the Missing Millions”.  

Free, rapid hepatitis C and HIV testing will be available.

Attendees can enjoy a free, on-site BBQ, games, henna art, prizes and live entertainment featuring local musician Chris Vega sponsored by Gilead Sciences Canada Inc.

The popular World Hepatitis Day selfie booth is also back for 2019.

The AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area will also unveil its new outreach van, made possible by Specialty Rx Solutions.

The new van will be used to reach underserved clients who might otherwise have trouble accessing the downtown office.

The van will offer the following services:

  • harm reduction supplies, including safe sex kits;
  • hygiene, warm and cold weather kits;
  • point-of-care testing for Hepatitis C and HIV;
  • linkage to treatment for Hepatitis C and HIV;
  • basic wound and medical care;
  • brief crisis intervention and client support;
  • snacks, warm and cold drinks; and,
  • food, clothing, sleeping bags and blankets as available.

Viral hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by viral infection; One in three people worldwide has been infected at some point in their lives with hepatitis C or B.
