Greg Saunders, Deputy Fire Chief responsible for Operations and Training, is reminding residents that with summer coming that there is an open air burning by-law in effect for the City of North Bay.

Open air burning is allowed in the City under certain restrictions but only with a valid burning permit which can be obtained at the customer service center at City Hall.  Burning without an approved permit is a fineable offense.

The bylaw startes, "No person shall set, maintain, or cause or permit to be set or maintained, an open air fire without a current valid permit. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, this includes recreational open air fires being conducted in an open air burning device."

You also must keep the permit at the site of the open air fire and produce it if an enforcement officer asks to see it.
