Despite Public Notices through the media and on the Municipal website, some residents are still contravening the Municipal By-law specific to winter parking and more recently to the removing of snow.

Police have been ticketing and in some cases having to tow vehicles that are parked on a street or municipal parking lot between midnight and 7 a.m.

Much like in North Bay, these restrictions begin on November 1st of each year and extend through to March 31st.

West Nipissing Police say with respect to shoveling, plowing or in any way moving snow from your property, you cannot place it onto the roadway, sidewalk or a bridge, near a fire hydrant or push it in such a way that it would obstruct drainage to any drain or storm sewer.  Police add that residents cannot push snow from their property to the other side of the road under any circumstance.  In addition, they cannot move the snow on your property in a way that would obstruct the safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

Fines for such activities are set at $100.00.

Police addd in addition, they may be ordered to remove the offending pile of snow at your cost or failing that, the Municipality may have the work done at your cost.

“We are asking that all residents comply with the By-laws as enforcement action will be taken where necessary by Municipal By-law Enforcement or West Nipissing Police,” stated Chief Chuck Seguin.
