The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests provided a "Wildland Fire Training Session" in the Township of Nipissing on May 12th.

Six Fire Departments took advantage of this training session including Argyle, Callander, Chisholm, East Ferris, Nipissing, Powassan (Trout Creek Station) and Restoule.

Thirty-one firefighters attended the training with four members of the MNRF.

"The training included how to prepare for and fight a wildland fire, hose handling, equipment management and compatibility with MNRF procedures," said Will Bateman, Fire Chief for the Township of Nipissing.

"This all-day session provided an excellent opportunity for joint training and networking between departments and MNRF representatives and helps to ensure that should a wildland fire situation develop locally, all members responding will work together in a safe and efficient manner.

"As it appears that a dry spring will be faced in our region, members of the public are reminded to extinguish all smoking materials safely and completely, manage all outdoor burning as required by Open Air Burning By-Laws, Fire Permits and common sense and please pay attention to all public notices regarding burning restrictions and bans as they are required."
