From May 15th to May 21st, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 166 calls for service.  Among those were 28 Police Assistance calls, 15 9-1-1 calls, 6 Thefts, 4 Alarms, 3 Mischief calls, 2 Break and Enters, 1 Assault, 1 Threat and 1 Sexual Assault.

The West Nipissing Police Service received a few complaints from cottage owners from across the lake.  The owners had returned to their cottages to open them up for the summer only to find that someone had attended and stole various items.  The articles stolen range from fishing gear, including tackle and rods/reels, power tools, hand tools and boat accessories.  There are no suspects at this time but the WNPS would like to hear from other cottage owners who had a similar occurrence happen to them.  Cottage owners might not think that reporting a minor theft is important but to the police all this information can be used in the future in the hopes of deterring more thefts.

On May 16th, a 34 year old man was arrested and charged for Mischief Under $5,000 after a call was received on May 14th.  Police attended a residence located on Front St after receiving a call of a broken window.  Officers were told that the suspect lived beside the complainant.  He was then spoken to but denied any involvement.  Other witnesses were also spoken to identifying the suspect as the culprit.  He was later located and arrested then released on a Promise to Appear.

On May 20th, a 27 year old male was arrested and charged with 1 count of Fraud under $5,000 after an investigation was initiated on May 1st.  The complainant told police that an ODSP cheque had been cashed after being told that the cheque had been lost.  Once the cheque was reported lost, another cheque was sent to the accused.  The suspect was identified and charged.  He was released on a Promise to Appear.

On May 21st, a 19 year old Sturgeon Falls resident was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Breach of Recognizance after a complaint was received on May 11th.  The complainant told police that there are court ordered conditions stipulating that the suspect should not be coming within 100 meters of where she goes to school but that she saw him riding his motor bike driving on the road as she was leaving school.  Video surveillance was obtained confirming the accounts of the victim’s statement.  These court ordered conditions stem from previous charges of Sexual Interference and numerous charges of Fail to Comply with an Undertaking.  As the suspect was arrested, a cell phone was located on his person which is another breach of his conditions.  He was kept in custody and brought to bail court.

On May 21st, a mischief call was received from a business owner.  The police were told that when the owner attended his sand pit, it was noticed that a window was broken on their loader.  ATV tracks were also observed in the sand pit.  There are no suspects identified at this time.
