During the week of December 5th to December 11th, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 205 calls for service.  Among those were 48 9-1-1 calls, 26 Police Assistance calls, 3 Thefts, 2 Breach of Probation, 1 Assault, 1 Fraud, 1 Impaired, 1 Threat and 1 Warrant.

On December 5th, at approx. midnight, WNPS offices were on general patrol when they observed a male sitting inside a restaurant located on Front St.  This male was known to the officers as having a curfew which was part of his court ordered conditions.  The 46 year old man was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance.  He was kept in custody and brought to bail court the next day.

On December 5th, the West Nipissing Police Service received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver heading East on Hwy 17 towards Sturgeon Falls.  The vehicle was eventually located and stopped on Hwy 64 near Levert Dr.  The driver was spoken to but no obvious signs of impairment were noticed.  The driver, however, was not able to provide neither any proof of a driver’s license nor any insurance information.  For investigative purposes, the male driver was taken into custody and brought back to the police station.  The 61 year old driver now faces numerous Highway Traffic Act charges including Drive while Under Suspension, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Plates, Operate Vehicle – No Insurance.  This last charge can lead to a $5000 fine upon conviction.  Other charges are pending upon further investigation.

On December 5th, police received a call regarding a possible impaired driver that was parked at the No Frills parking lot. Officers attended and observed the suspect vehicle with the female driver texting.  The suspect was spoken to which is when the officer noticed an odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath.  The roadside screening device was administered registering a “FAIL”. She was then arrested for Care and Control and brought before a qualified breath tech.  Two more breath samples were collected with the results showing that the driver had more than twice over the legal limit of alcohol in her blood.  The 52 year old Sudbury resident was charged with Care and Control and Over 80 and was later released on a Promise to Appear.  Her vehicle was towed and she was issued an automatic 90 day driver’s license suspension.

On December 6th, the West Nipissing Police Service received a complaint from a camp owner located on Alouette Rd in Verner.  The owner said that within the last two days, someone attended the property and stole a red Rapala ice auger, 3 red plastic jerry can containing gas, a 15 hp Mariner outboard motor and miscellaneous tools.  There are no suspects at this time but police are still investigating.

On December 8th The WNPS had a RIDE program set up on John St when a vehicle was stopped.  The officer recognized the passenger in the front seat and knew he had a curfew as part of his court ordered conditions.  As the officer was to affect the arrest, the suspect broke free and ran under the bridge.  All the emergency services were called out due to the dangerous situation.  He was eventually convinced to give himself up.  The 19 year old Verner resident was arrested and charged with 1 count of Breach of Recognizance and Resist Arrest.  He was kept in custody and later brought to bail court.

A 35 year old Sturgeon Falls resident has been arrested after a complaint was received from a woman stating that she was being harassed. On December 10th, the victim attended the West Nipissing Police Service and provided a statement to police stating details about this harassment.  She went on to say that earlier that day the suspect attended her workplace and that she didn’t want to speak with him.  This is when the accused threw an object at her hitting her in the chest area.  The suspect male was arrested the next day and charged with Criminal Harassment, Domestic Assault and 2 counts of Fail to Comply with a Probation Order.  He was kept in custody and brought to bail court.
