Up and Coming Talent Showcased

(NORTH BAY, ONT.) – Students from Canadore College’s media programs will be displaying their creative collections at the inaugural School of Media, Design and Dramatic Arts Showcase this Thursday.

Over 200 students from the College’s Advertising and Marketing, Digital Cinematography, Graphic Design, Mobile Application, Radio, Television, and Theatre Arts programs will be showcasing their accomplishments at the Capitol Centre.

“I’ve had the privilege of seeing these skills develop over time,” said Yura Monestime, Interim Associate Dean, Media, Design and Dramatic Arts. “Seeing it all under one roof though makes me realize that our students truly have immeasurable talent. I’m very proud of what they’ve accomplished together.”

Monestime says that students in this particular school of study are tasked with working together from their first semester.

“Theatre Arts students are featured in Digital Cinematography films, TV productions, and radio shows,” said Monestime. “Advertising students are helping aspiring filmmakers with marketing campaigns, and mobile apps are even being developed as scene props, and that’s just internally. In the community, Canadore students are also on the front lines at OHL Battalion games running the video board and graphic design students are documenting through photography.”

The showcase builds on the success of last year’s Digital Cinematography Showcase, where first- and second-year students screened 27 short films. This year alone, over 500 digital cinematography and television pieces have been completed, compiling more than 83 hours of content. This magnitude of work is representative of all program areas, said Monestime, which is why the event broadened its scope this year to highlight talent across the board.
