Timmins woman dead after police arrest

TPS officers arrested the woman and took her to the police station where she was put in a cell

A woman that died after being arrested by the Timmins Police Service has the province’s Special Investigations Unit investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the 62-year-old woman this weekend.

According to police:

  • At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, the Timmins Police Service was called to the Timmins District Hospital to investigate a woman. When asked to leave, the woman got into a taxi and left.
  • A short time later, the woman was allegedly causing a disturbance at a shelter. TPS officers arrested the woman and took her to the police station where she was put in a cell.
  • At approximately 10 p.m., an ambulance was called and the woman was taken to the hospital.
  • The next day the TPS was notified that the woman had been pronounced dead in hospital.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault. 

At this time, two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to this incident.
