Theft of road signs, gun violations keep Almaguin OPP busy

(PERRY TWP, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating the theft of two road signs located on the private property at Bittern Lake Estates in Perry Township, Ontario.

Unknown person(s) entered the private property and stole two road signs, the first sign said Vista Lane and the other said Wolf Trail.  The Vista Lane sign was recovered; however the Wolf Trail sign is still missing.  Suspect(s) also pushed over the Inuksuk that was located at this area.  The missing road sign is valued at approximately $100.

BREAK ENTER AND THEFT AT A PERRY TOWNSHIP RESIDENCE

(PERRY TWP, ON) On Thursday October 9, 2014 at approximately 8:00 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a break enter and theft to a So-Ho-Mish Road.  Sometime between Sunday September 21, 2014 and Sunday September 21, 2014 unknown person(s) entered the boathouse on So-Ho-Mish Road and stole an Echo power blower model RB603 and a 9 horsepower 4 stroke Johnson boat motor.

OPP CHARGE PERRY TWP MAN FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING

(PERRY TWP, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were patrolling Highway 518, Perry Township on Sunday October 12, 2014 at approximately 1:40 p.m., when they observed a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado travelling westbound.  The officers stopped the vehicle and subsequently arrested and charged the driver for having more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.  The driver, Ken MASON, 54 of Perry Township was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday,

SOUTH RIVER MAN CHARGED WITH FIREARM OFFENCES

(SOUTH RIVER, ON) - A 65 year old South River man was charged with numerous firearm related offences after the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a domestic occurrence on Thursday October 9, 2014.

Police obtained a warrant, entered the residence and seized four non-restricted long guns, one restricted handgun and variety ammunition.  Police arrested and charged the accused with assault, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and unauthorized possession of a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused is to appear for a bail hearing on Friday October 17, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario.

Meanwhile, the Almaguin Highlands OPP and officers from Highway Safety Division of the OPP conducted operation impact from Friday October 10, to Monday October 13.  Officers patrolled local Towns, Villages and roads looking for motorists who were speeding, not wearing their seatbelts, impaired drivers and other moving violations.  Officers wrote a total of 139 Provincial Offence Notices during this long weekend for the following offences.

97 - speeding charges

9 - fail to have insurance card

1- fail to stop or slow for emergency vehicles

9 - driver, fail to wear seat belt

5 - passenger, fail to wear seat belt

1 - careless driving

1 - drive motor vehicle with hand held communication device

3 - people were charged under the Liquor Licence Act

1 - person charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

1 driver was charged under the Criminal Code for impaired operation and 4 drivers and 2 passengers were charged with possession of a controlled substance.
