              THEFT OF PROPANE TANKS IN MACHAR TOWNSHIP

(MACHAR TWP, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a theft of two propane tanks that went missing from an East Bay Road, Machar Township.  The theft occurred sometime between September 19, 2014 and October 19, 2014. The tanks are described as white, 100 pound tanks with an approximate value of $270.

Any person with information regarding the person(s) responsible for this theft should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.


       OPP CHARGE A WHITESTONE MAN FOR BREAK AND ENTER

(MAGNETAWAN, ON) On Monday October 20, 2014 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a break and enter to an Ahmic Lake Road, Magnetawan Township residence.

OPP received a call about a suspicious vehicle in the driveway of the property that was broken into.  The investigation led officers to charge a Whitestone man, David BRADSHAW, 49 with break and enter, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday November 27, 2014

           OPP STOP SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE ON ONTARIO STREET 
                                              ARMOUR TOWNSHIP                                     

(ARMOUR TWP, ON) On Wednesday October 22, 2014 the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call of a suspicious vehicle in Strong Township.  Police observed the vehicle, a sports utility vehicle on Ontario Street, in the Village of Burk’s Falls and stopped the vehicle in Armour Township.

After investigating the incident, the driver was arrested for possession of marihuana.  The vehicle was searched and approximately 38 grams of marihuana was seized from the vehicle.  The driver, a 17 year old whose name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was charged with possession of a substance, marihuana and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.


 OPP ARREST TWO DRIVERS FOR IMPARED DRIVING IN SPRUCEDALE

(SPRUCEDALE, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was setting up a R.I.D.E. program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) at approximately 9:00 p.m., on Thursday October 23, 2014, when they observed a pickup truck.  The officer spoke to the driver and subsequently arrested and charged the female driver with driving while ability impaired and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

The accused, Jennifer ROBBINS, 50 of McMurrich/Monteith Township was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday November 27, 2014.

On Friday October 24, 2014 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the OPP was on patrol in the Village of Sprucedale when they observed a vehicle attempting to turn on to Highway 518 from Stisted Road.  The officer spoke to the driver of the vehicle and arrested and charged him with driving while ability impaired and driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood.

The accused, Brian SOULIERE, 54 of McMurrich/Monteith is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge, Ontario on Thursday November 27, 2014


                           DRIVER CHARGED IN R.I.D.E. PROGRAM

(MACHAR TWP, ON) The North East Region Highway Safety Division of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting a R.I.D.E. program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Eagle Lake Road, Machar Township on Friday October 24, 2014.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., the driver of a red 1998 Dodge Dakota approached the R.I.D.E. program.  Officers spoke to the driver and subsequently arrested him for possession of marihuana.  Further investigation revealed that the driver was on a recognizance of bail and on probation.  The driver, Scott FRASER, 42 of Huntsville Ontario was arrested and charged with fail to comply with undertaking, fail to comply with a probation order and fail to comply with a recognizance of bail, contrary to the Criminal Code.  The accused was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused is to appear in bail court at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ontario on Monday October 27, 2014.

 

 POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING SEVERAL COLLISIONS WITH WILDLIFE

(ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS, ON) The Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has investigated several collisions on the Highways involving wildlife.  From September 01, 2014 to October 27, 2014 officers have investigated 26 collisions involving deer, moose, a fox, a raccoon, a bear and a turkey.

Police remind motorists to drive with caution and follow these safety tips.
• Use caution if driving at dawn and dusk, when animals are most active and visibility is poor
•The risk of deer/vehicle collisions is greatest during autumn and early winter
• Slow down when approaching deer standing on the side of the road.  Deer may "bolt" or change direction at the last minute.
•Deer often travel in groups, if you see one, expect more.

Always report a collision if the damage is suspected to be over $1000.
