The hand sanitizer went to several district volunteer fire departments and the North Bay EMS to help alleviate some shortages in our area.

"Our Rotary Club has been continuing our weekly meetings since mid-March virtually on Zoom and it was during one of these meetings that some of our members pointed out there were shortages of Health Canada approved sanitizer among some front line services.," says spokesman Kevin Smith. "This problem was targeted as something our club members could assist with and it was agreed to supply several volunteer fire departments and the local OPP detachment with a sanitizer donation."

The club purchased 20 litre drums of the sanitizer and transferred some of it to 150 personal size bottles for personal or vehicle use and distributed the remainder in a drum or 4 litre containers for refilling the smaller bottles.

While planning the final distribution the OPP detachment received a large shipment of sanitizer and they suggested their part of the donation be forwarded to the North Bay EMS service on Seymour Street as they had a more pressing need.

"It has been a very challenging time for everyone during this crisis and service clubs such as our Nipissing Rotary Club are no exception," said Smith. "All our fundraisers had to be cancelled and we are no longer meeting in person. However, we are still active and dedicated to assisting our community."

Funds for the sanitizer were raised through member donations and a reserve fund.
