 This Friday May 13th.

The locally owned, locally operated, and community focused restaurant opened its doors to the public of North Bay just over a year ago. Since then, the owner and Chef Nicolas Gignac has forged his way through the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of running a restaurant in northern Ontario.

A graduate of the Canadore College Culinary Management program, Nic moved back to his home town of North Bay after a seven year absence with the goal of bringing modern culinary artistry to the north. His primary focus has always been on quality and locally sourced ingredients.

“It’s wonderful to know” Nic says “that in the process of pursuing my own dream, I am contributing to a city I love, promoting and practicing the importance of supporting the local economy, creating jobs and building friendships, and helping to build a culture of true culinary artistry and appreciation here in my home town.”

He has also noticed the city’s appreciation and enthusiasm for local businesses, a trend the Miner’s Son hopes to promote and encourage.

Nic’s beautifully constructed, modern kitchen is open concept - the first of its kind in North Bay - meaning you can enjoy your meal all the while watching him and his team expertly execute a dinner service. Nic’s favourite part of the job? The Chef’s Table. Guests at the Miner’s Son have the option of booking a personal audience with the Chef at the kitchen bar (Chef’s Table) where he prepares for them a special off the menu, five-course meal of his own design. It’s dinner and a show, as he calls it, while he provides the entertainment in the form of insight into the menu, the kitchen, his own life and more. He’s an open book, he says,
and he’s anything but shy. Because everything is prepared fresh and in house, nearly any dietary preference or restriction can be accommodated.

“The Chef Table is an opportunity for me to get creative and offer a really unique dining experience. I get to show off a bit and have fun with my guests on a much more personal level. It’s a chance to showcase what I can really do, and I have just as much fun as my guests. This is what I got into the industry to do, and it’s the best part of my job.”

The one-year anniversary celebration will be open to the public, but reservations are highly recommended. The evening will begin with cocktails at 5:00pm and a limited dinner menu will be offered starting at 7:00pm.

Call 705.478.5396 to make reservations or stop in after 11:00am at 595 Cartier st.
