Does your household have an aspiring musician, a singer or a pianist who wishes to celebrate a Canadian Composer during CANADA 150?  Can your school or class assemble a choir to sing 'O Canada' in our festival?

There are still a few days remaining to register your Music Student, Group or School to participate in the 52nd Annual North Bay Kiwanis Music Festival Celebrating 150 Years of Canadian Music.  Registration Deadline is this Friday, FEBRUARY 24, 2017.

For this year, it's expanded to offer additional cash awards for the categories who identify Canadian Composers.  Also NEW for 2017, a new award to a Grade 12 student pursuing post secondary music education.

CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF CANADIAN MUSIC WITH A SPECIAL AWARD CATEGORY ~ Committed to celebrating and promoting Canadian composers as part of Canada’s 150th birthday, in partnership with Ontario Power Generation, the North Bay Kiwanis Music Festival is offering a special award category to recognize excellence here in Canada. We encourage teachers to support their students’ exploration and selection of Canadian Compositions. A $50.00 cash award will be presented to the student with the highest mark in each discipline. To be eligible for this award, the participant must note ‘Canadian Composer Award’ when registering online.

CYNTHIA ROVEDA MUSIC EDUCATION AWARD ~ This cash award of $150.00 is given to a Grade 12 high school student who is pursuing their studies, in the following school year, in music education in any discipline (ex., voice, piano, wind or string instrument) at a university or college level.   This award is to encourage students to further their studies in music education at a university or college level and to become our future school music teachers. Please indicate a note ‘pursuing music education’ upon registration.

PATRICK FORTIN DETERMINATION AWARD ~ NOMINATION DATE CHANGE:  Teachers are encouraged to submit nominations for the Patrick Fortin Determination Award to the Festival Coordinator by Friday, April 28.  We hope this extended deadline will give teachers more opportunity to select and nominate a student who has overcome adversity and continues to pursue music.

We thank those who have already registered in our 2017 program.  Parents and students can register directly through our website www.kiwanisnipissing.com/MusicFestival or contact our Music Festival Coordinator Lyanne Foster <[email protected]>
