Suspected cannabis and fentanyl found as car crashes off the road

On May 14, at 9:30 a.m., the North Bay Detachment of the OPP was called to a single motor vehicle accident on Highway 11 at Highway 17, North Bay.    

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was not injured in the crash. Officers arrested the driver at the scene for impaired driving and the driver was brought to the North Bay OPP for further testing.   

In searching the vehicle after the arrest, officers found a quantity of suspected cannabis and suspected fentanyl.  

As a result of the investigation, Joshua Callahan, 28, of East Ferris Township was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Careless driving 

Callahan was released on an appearance notice and summons and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice on July 21 in North Bay.  

This incident marks 19 drivers charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the North Bay Detachment. Of the 18 charged, seven were charged with impaired by drugs and 32 per cent of those charged were between the ages of 20 and 29 (the highest category).
