Sudbury driver gets a speeding ticket and an impaired charge

A 23-year-old Sudbury resident was arrested and charged

The Nipissing West Detachment (Sudbury) of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 17, in the Greater City of Sudbury when they observed a vehicle traveling greater than 130 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 90 km/h zone around 5:30 p.m. on January 12.

The investigation revealed the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. The driver was arrested and transported to Greater Sudbury Police Service for further testing. 

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Josee Lamarche, 23-years-of-age, from Sudbury, was arrested and charged with: 

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) CC; and
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) CC.

The accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on March 3rd, 2021, in Sudbury. 

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
