STUNT DRIVING LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGE

 (MATTAWA, ON) – On April 29, 2015, at 9:30 p.m., an officer from the Mattawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on patrol on Highway 17 in Calvin Township when he observed a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer stopped the vehicle, and, when the officer was speaking with the driver, it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. 

Based on the officer’s investigation, the driver, 41 year old Michael ALLAN of North Bay, was arrested and charged with:

1.    Race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA).  His Ontario drivers licence has been suspended for seven (7) days, and the vehicle he was operating was also seized for seven (7) days. 

2.    Impaired operation of a motor vehicle contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).

3.    Care or control of a motor vehicle – over 80 mgs contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on May 13, 2015.
