Strong Women Leading the Way is theme of Anishinaabe Gimmakweok Pow-Wow

It will celebrate ancestral connections, values and beliefs.
Anishinaabe 2016

This Saturday, Canadore is hosting its 26th Annual Anishinaabe Gimmakweok Pow-Wow organized by its Aboriginal Student Association (CASA) and supported by the Canadore Students’ Council (CSC).

This year’s theme is Strong Women Leading the Way and the gathering will celebrate ancestral connections, values and beliefs. The gathering will include drumming, dancing, First Nations vendors, as well as a traditional feast. The pow-wow is an opportunity for the community to participate in a social and cultural event to help strengthen relationships.

CASA and Canadore’s First Peoples’ Centre are also hosting a community-teach in on Friday in advance of the cultural gathering, with pow-wow boot camp sessions, and a session with youth from the Children’s Climate Conference 2015, followed by an improve comedy show and fiddle and country stepping contest.

Everyone is welcome to attend this one-day event to learn and grow through cultural exchange.
