Spike belt stops stolen vehicle

On April 14 at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Warren OPP officers responded to a request for assistance from the West Nipissing Police Service (WNPS) to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle from that town.

The OPP saw the vehicle travelling on Highway 17 in Markstay-Warren. and used a spike belt to stop the vehicle. There were no injuries and the driver was arrested. 

"While questioning with the driver, police determined that he was under the influence of alcohol," saays Constable Carmel McDonald.

As a result of the investigation, Daniel Joly, 26, from West Nipissing, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Prohibited contrary to section 320.18 of the CC;
  • Fail to Stop for Police and
  • Driving While Under Suspension.

Joly was issue90-day day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension as well as a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury.. 

He was then turned over to the WNPS to be processed for the stolen vehicle.
