Discovery North Bay Museum is getting ready to host an opening for “Snapshots of the Bay: The Photographs of John McNeill”.

This exhibit provides an intimate view of life in North Bay as captured by Nugget photographer John McNeill.

The above photo “Shadflies Return” is one of the 21 photos featured in the exhibit.

"Creating this exhibit was a community effort that was led by museum volunteer Pat Moulson," said Museum Director Naomi Rupke-Hehn in a news release. "The photos featured in the exhibit were discovered in a dusty corner of the Allison the Bookman store. Only one photograph was identified."

With the help of former Nugget staffers Colin Vezina, Dave Palangio, and Paul Chivers, the photographer’s biography and the subject matter of the pictures was assembled.

John McNeill’s family was also consulted.

McNeill, a native of Sturgeon Falls, worked for the Nugget for over 10 years before moving on to work at the Globe and Mail for 30 years. He covered local, national, and international events and won many Press Club awards in the process.
