SIU seeking witnesses as 49 year old shot dead in parole office in Elliot Lake

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 49-year-old man yesterday in Elliot Lake.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

  • Shortly after 11 a.m. on April 20, a 49-year-old man went into the probation and parole office located on Philip Walk in Elliot Lake.
  • While in the presence of Ontario Provincial Police officers, the man sustained a gunshot wound.
  • He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. At this time, it does not appear that any police officer discharged a firearm at any time during this incident.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. The Unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
