Singer, author, Air Force veteran passes

Our beloved Marj passed away on September 27, 2014 at age 89 following a series of strokes. She was the last survivor of the Thomas and Margaret Keenan family of Kenora, Ontario, having been predeceased by sisters, Kathleen Elliott, Jean Maunsell, Mona Sloan, Fances Gregg, Aileen Eaton and brothers, Gordon and Hugh Keenan.

Marj was a career nurse in the Canadian Armed Forces (Air Force). She was posted and served at many Air Force bases in Canada and Europe. Her final posting was to North Bay, Ontario where she retired in 1975. Marj was widely travelled and in 2009 published a book chronicling her life and travels, aptly titled “Memoirs of an Unclaimed Treasure”.

Marj played many sports, was an avid gardener and was a talented musician. She played violin in the North Bay Symphony and sang in the choir at St. John’s Anglican Church and with the Baytones choral group.

She leaves many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews, all of whom she touched and entertained in her inimitable way. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, North Bay on Saturday October 25th at 2:30 p.m. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow in Kenora, Ontario.
