The Nipissing Transition House is hosting a second Youth Art Competition as part of its “Show of Hands” initiative.

"The goal is to raise awareness about intimate partner violence in our community, and to garner pledges for the One Pledge Campaign to end domestic violence," says spokeswoman Brigitte Lebel. "The last Show of Hands event received over 60 submissions and a full house for the art exhibit and award ceremony."

This year they are opening up a new age category (12-14) into the competition. All Nipissing District youth between the ages of 12 and 30 are invited to participate and share their perspectives on intimate partner violence by submitting an original piece of artwork in any medium including visual art, music, dance, video and/or creative writing.

Artwork must be submitted by March 22, for consideration.

There is a top prize of $500 and three honourable mention prizes of $100 each for each age category.

Winners will be announced on March 28.

The winning and honourable mention artwork will be presented at the “Show of Hands” art exhibit and celebration at The Grande Event Centre on April 4.
