The Watershed Shakespeare Festival Collective presents William Shakespeare’s ROMEO AND JULIET for 10 performances only.

One of Shakespeare's most popular and accessible plays, ROMEO AND JULIET tells the story of two star-crossed lovers and the unhappy fate that befalls them as a result of a long and bitter feud between their families.

"The play contains some of Shakespeare's most beautiful and lyrical love poetry and is perhaps the finest celebration of the joys of young love ever written," says a news release.

"In seeking to shorten the gap between the world of ROMEO AND JULIET and our own society, director Rod Carley is setting the story within the French/English tension in pre-confederation Lower Canada in 1837. He has garnered a national reputation for his adaptations of Shakespeare and has directed 16 of the bard’s works. He was the 2009 winner of TVO’s Big Ideas/Best Lecturer competition for his lecture: 'Adapting Shakespeare Within a Canadian Context'."

ROMEO AND JULIET features a cast of 19, including Morgan Bedard as Romeo, Kelsey Ruhl as Juliet, Maureen Cassidy as Mother Abbess, Joshua Bainbridge as Mercutio and Carley as Lord Capulet.   Award-winning set designer Frank Vona is transforming Trinity United Church into the 1837 world of the Capulets and Montagues.
