Repeat offender charged with luring (update: charges withdrawn)

July 24, 2020 update:

Court documents indicate that charges against William Mathews were withdrawn on June 30.

Kirkland Lake OPP responded to a report of "luring" in Matachewan back on Feb.6 and today announced the results of that investigation.

William Mathews, 29, from Temiskaming Shores, was arrested on March 31, and charged with:

  • Luring a person under 18 by means of telecommunication
  • Possession of child pornography
  • Two counts of failing to comply with prohibition regarding children

Mathews was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on June 4.

The Child Exploitation Unit, Forensic Identification Services Unit, the North East Region Community Street Crime Unit and the North East Regional Support Team assisted in the investigation.
