The last days to donate your bike to the ReCycle Bikes program are coming up fast!

Due to the success of the program, the collection period for bikes is now coming to an end. Bikes can be dropped off at the North Bay YMCA at 186 Chippewa Street West until Friday, July 13. In exchange for each donated bike in good condition, Discovery Routes will issue a $25 charitable tax receipt.

Recycle Bikes is a program run by Discovery Routes Trails Organization, in collaboration with the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and North Bay YMCA, to repair donated bikes and redistribute them to the community. So far, over 60 bicycles have been donated and are being refurbished by an enthusiastic team of volunteer bike mechanics.

With the expansion of the program for 2018, both adult and children’s bikes have been collected. Bikes have already started to be distributed through community partners.

"Discovery Routes is delighted with the response from the North Bay community and their generosity in donating bikes and volunteering to repair them," said Jennifer McCourt, Executive Director. "Anyone with bike repair skills willing to volunteer for the program can contact Discovery Routes directly by emailing [email protected]. If you have a bike that needs some work before you can ride it yourself, Discovery Routes is also running introductory bike maintenance workshops each Wednesday evening from 6-7 p.m. at the Laurentian Ski Hill Lower Lodge, until August 1."

Discovery Routes is unable to accept bikes that are extremely rusty or broken as they are too costly for the organization to repair to a standard that is reusable
